A Text Analytics View of the Big Weekend – July 4th

Summer is here. The temperatures are rising and everyone is getting excited about the upcoming long weekend.  I thought it would be interesting to see what were the common themes people were talking about before the long, hot weekend. This was meant to be a fun, quick exercise and to see what I might be missing out on by not hitting the road this weekend.

As you would expect, the volume of conversations related to the long weekend began to grow as we got closer to the weekend and as more people became excited to share their plans.

The temperatures are rising and everyone is getting excited about the upcoming long weekend.  I thought it would be interesting to see what were the common themes people were talking about before the long, hot weekend. This was meant to be a fun, quick exercise and to see what I might be missing out on by not hitting the road this weekend.

As you would expect, the volume of conversations related to the long weekend began to grow as we got closer to the weekend and as more people became excited to share their plans.

As you would expect, the greatest number of conversations centered around the theme Travel.

But what was interesting as I analyzed the conversations collected under this theme were the number of posts about price of gas influencing travel plans. It seems many Texans will be staying put.

I then spent a bit of time analyzing the audience. Google news showed up prominently so I did some further digging and themed all of Google News’ posts – all 8,000 of them. This type of functionality can be quite helpful if you are interested in analyzing other interests your audience may have.

So, people are gearing up to hit road, maybe not in as many numbers, this holiday weekend. My plans are to find a good view of the fireworks. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!
