I’m really pleased that an article I wrote, “5 real-world uses of big data“, has been published in the widely-read technology blog GigaOm. In the article, I review five examples of using data science techniques and R to make sense of some large real-world data sets:
- Drew Conway’s analysis of the Afghanistan attacks data released by Wikileaks
- Benetech’s use of R to identify genocides
- The many uses of R for sabermetrics
- How NIST used R to respond to the BP oil spill
- How CardioDX used Revolution R to develop a test for coronary heart disease
These are all great real-world examples of R applications, and I’m glad GigaOm was able to give them all some wide exposure. As I wrote in the article:
