Although a Minority Report scenario might seem far away, it is already possible to predict where crime is likely to happen. Predictive analytics are rapidly improving, but will never be able to predict with 100% accuracy whether or not you are about to commit what crime. So what will the consequences be if such a system will be in place, where the government will try to ‘help’ you because you have a 90% chance to commit a crime in the next 12 months. Kenneth Cukier, co-author of Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think, discusses the dark side of big data.
