We are living in transformative times where everything becomes digitized, including the energy grid. Smart energy grids generate massive amount of data that provide insights previously unknown to consumers, organisations and governments. These insights provide information about the state of the grid, the pricing of the energy and the individual energy consumption of different households. Citizens will be able to interact a lot more with their local energy grid when in the future this becomes common across the globe.
Today such a smart energy grid is already being tested in Austin, Texas. The company Pecan Street, working together with Intel, is responsible for this pilot project and all the data that is generated in the pilot is shared with universities and research centers around the world to learn more about smart energy grids and energy usage trends.
