Do You Need an Extra Brain?

I don’t write too much about new software here. Fact is, In many cases I’m not the early adopter some seem to think I am. That said, if I believe a new technology can make life significantly easier/better I’m happy to give it a try especially for work purposes.

The last piece of non analytics software I wrote about here was Xobni. Since I first wrote about Xobni it has become part of my daily life and I don’t know how I would handle all my email without it.

Today though I’m writing about another software, Evernote. See Evernote’s CEO interviewed on YouTube below.

To summarize the application, picture having an application that helps you remember important/cool stuff. It’s like a super note book that is searchable and shareable. First you create a couple of folders. You might try: Personal, New Product Ideas (Great if you are trying to create a new product or business), Book Ideas (great if you are planning on writing a book), Cool Stuff etc…

First you create a couple of folders. Then, as you are browsing the web, opening email, etc., if you see anything of interest, you just click it into Evernote and tag it as you wish. You can also drag pictures or PDF’s in there. You can scan documents and put them in or even take pictures of something with your cell phone if you are out and about and instantly send it to Evernote.

One cool feature is that Evernote can read text inside a picture. So if you’re in a retail store, say, and you take a picture of the shelf of your favorite pickles, “Farmer John’s Pickles” later when you wonder where you saw those pickles you can search for it in Evernote and it will find the word Pickles on the jar in the picture and bring up the picture with Price and all other info.

I bet it could be used for MR purposes too. We’ve already started using it as collaboration software here at Anderson Analytics. I can share specific folders with my colleagues, and it then becomes a great way to share and build a database of secondary data and ideas.

Remember you heard it here first
