I have been an analyst for over a year and I still come across interesting ways to try to get into the inbox. Recently, I have seen a perfect scenario that would get me every time. The opt out link states “To Unsubscribe Click Here”. This is made to look like one opt link. Actually it is two separate links made to look like one opt out link. The first link “To Unsubscribe Click Her” and the second link is “e.” The first link goes directly to an another advertisement for the product being advertised. The second link is the actual opt out link. Any given day, you could click on this and get another advertisement. Unless, you were to click on the 2nd “e” in “here.” This is the only part of the link that will send you to an opt out page. You have a fairly decent size link that is actually broken down into two links but made to look like one. I would say that 99% of the time that unless you are digging into the links, you would never notice this. I thought this was a very crafty technique to try to get the consumer to click on the advertisement. Although it is quite deceptive, someone had to think of this idea. So, it would basically be by chance that you would happen to put your cursor over the “e” and get the actual opt out link. I thought this was a very crafty way to get their advertisement out. But, there is always someone to catch these issues and that’s why I get paid the big bucks.
