Actually, I do not tweet or have a Twitter account (yet). Maybe I will in the future. I am typically not interested in trivial activities of people’s lives, like what they had for dinner. And yet I violate this opinion when writing this blog. This is because this blog will be short because I am now on vacation on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea. But I like to consistently my every Tuesday blog.
When the 17th century French philosopher, Rene Descartes, wrote his “From Discourse on Method titled Cogito, ergo sum translated as I think therefore I am, he wrote “I had long since remarked that in matters of conduct it is necessary sometimes to follow opinions known to be uncertain, as if they were not subject to doubt; but, because now I was desirous to devote myself to the search after truth, I considered that I must do just the contrary, and reject as absolutely false every-thing concerning which I could imagine the least doubt to exist.”
In short, Descartes concluded he must find truths he could trust.
In a similar fashion, rather than believing that the mystifying (to me) slow adoption rate of analytics-based performance management methodologies is due to skepticism of their value, I think it is because of a more thorny reason – human nature’s resistance to change.
If you want to read more about how I feel about this, read my article True Confession - My Struggle with Two Loves.
Back to my vacation !
